What is a "vivid" city?

Sydney is like many cities with a calendar of diverse cultural activities to keep us entertained.

Right now we are in the midst of "Vivid Sydney" - apparently the largest celebration of light, music and ideas in the Southern hemisphere!

The city wasn't looking particularly vivid yesterday as it rained off and on and all looked a bit grey - but according to media reports last Friday night "tens of thousands" of "enthralled" viewers lined the harbour foreshore to look at the "lighting of the sails" of the Sydney Opera House and other projections around the city. These were some photos that were taken - you can see more on the Vivid Sydney website.

Do other cities have events like this - or is it just a Sydney thing?

What do you think being a Vivid city means?

I am off to have a look. . .

  1. Glad you are back in the blogging saddle. We are going to the Chinese Lantern Festival tonight at the MO Botanical Garden - not the same scale as Vivid Sydney, but not bad for STL.
