It's almost harvest time

As we tour around there is nothing I am more sure of than that M will be wanting to stop the car and look at whatever crop is in sight and it is not always at the side of the road.
We have been down many beaten tracks.

Sunflowers and grapes are the crops of the moment

Closer to our Blauzac we have found a walk that allows him to monitor both in adjoining fields on a daily basis.

The combine that harvests sunflowers has been idle the past two days.
With a 13 foot sunflower header - it is very small compared to what is used in IL

This farmer was plowing today getting ready for fall small grain planting

Grapes on the other hand are one of the latest ripening harvests in recent memory, with uneven small berries in tight bunches. throughout the vineyard.
Therefore harvest has been delayed and we anticipate that vendange will start later this week.
We can taste the difference in ripeness as we sample various bunches on our daily walks.

  1. Those grapes look luscious!Would they pass as table grapes? Mum and Dad used to have an old variety of grape growing at their house which looked similar and had a flavour like passionfruit. It may have been called Isabella or Concorde, and far superior taste to the seedless table grapes we have in shops today. Are folks too lazy to deal with seeds and thick skins on their grapes or are they just not being given the chance to find out?
